MONDAY MOTIVATION - GOOGLE TO EXCELLENCE

What does the way you Google say about you? Are you settling for a world colored in gray? We know that each person is an individual and has the capacity to think independently . . . for the most part. Given any random group of people, let's assume that each one thinks somewhat differently than the other. At the same time the group has a certain set of values or norms that keep order in the group and help facilitate a sense of belonging and acceptance. They figuratively, and most likely literally, speak the same language.

Language opens and closes doors. Look at Google+ for example. If the "translate" button  is available, I am able to have conversations with people who speak an entirely different language than me, and be able to understand enough basic information to work together if we had to. Without that piece of technology, I would not be able to connect with people globally the way I do each day.

The more people we understand, the stronger the connections we build, the more knowledge we acquire and the faster we grow. I never thought survival of the fittest would have anything to do with a word that started with GOO.

Google is a search engine that produces results based on human input. The human user enters desired search parameters and Google produces results based on those search terms. I am a strong believer in "we are what we think" and this is just one of many examples that illustrate how this theory is a reality.

Betsy needs some awesome pictures of cats for a school project. She goes to Google and entered the word "cats" in the search box. She then goes to the image results and gets the pictures she needs and is prepared for school.

Barbie is in Betsy's class and has the same assignment. Betsy goes to Google as well. Finds what she needs and is ready for school the next day.

The next day in class Betsy is so excited to share what she found. The class loves the pictures she found. Betsy felt great. . . until Barbie started to show the cats pictures that she found. They were the most awesome pictures of cats that anyone has ever seen. While Barbie was full of pride, Betsy was feeling mediocre. Betsy asked Barbie, "Where did you find your pictures?" Barbie replied simply, "Google."

Can you guess what happened?

The assignment was to find awesome cat pictures. When Betsy went to Google she entered in "cats" and went to image results. When Barbie went to Google she entered "awesome cats" and went to search results. (I can try this out right now, and see the difference once descriptive word can make.)

Language is the way we express our thoughts. This is how we share information. When we drop key things out, we lose part of the meaning. The knowledge and use of descriptive words is essential in having a fuller life. Ordinary is a world with no descriptive words. Betsy asked for cats and she saw cats. Barbie asked for awesome cats, and saw awesome cats.

Think of all the people that settle for the average. All the people who Google in a boring library card file type of way. NOW think of all the information they are missing because they are NOT searching for unique, amazing, unbelievable, funny, excellent, sweet, smart search terms that show you fantastic results.

Monday Motivation, wraps up like this. Everytime you need to search for something, think about what you really want. Then Google it. Use descriptive words, and weighted words that detail the meaning of the noun. Get more from Google, get more from life. Be excellent and demand excellence right now . . . starting with how you Google, and the information you fuel your mind with.
